It's Friday Food Finds!
I'm always recommending Chunk Light "Tongol Tuna" to my clients and most of them have never heard of it. It's a perfect substitute for albacore (which most of us shouldn't be eating due to its high mercury levels) because it doesn't look or feel like chunk-style tuna. I like to think of it as premium quality Chunk Light...it has great texture, it's moist, and it doesn't look like cat food! I buy it at Trader Joe's, but you can find it at Whole Foods, too.
Lentils are a staple in my house. I grew up eating my mom's lentil soup so it's definitely a comfort food for me. These vacuumed sealed lentils are a great find! Thank you to Trader Joe's for doing the cooking for me! I saute chopped carrots, onions, and garlic in a little olive oil until soft, add the lentils and a container of vegetable broth, and I'm set. It doesn't get much easier than that!
These are an old favorite. There are many substitutes, but Genisoy is the maker of the original soy crisp! What do I love about them? They come in salt and vinegar flavor for starters. Also, one serving (which is almost 20 chips!) is about 100 calories and has 1 oz of protein. I like to dip them in hummus.
Lastly are my beloved Ak Mak crackers. I've been eating these for years! They're a simple stone ground sesame cracker - high in fiber and pretty clean eating with less than 10 ingredients. A very generous serving of 5 of crackers is just over 100 calories. I eat them mostly with tuna salad and soup.
Happy shopping! Until next time...
